Kobi Kwarteng

The Wanderers Club has a new tennis champion, Kobi Kwarteng, who has won the Club’s Men’s Singles Closed Championship.

Kobi was born in Sunyani, in the Bono Region of Ghana and grew up in the capital city, Accra. He was introduced to tennis at the age of six by his dad, who happened to be an avid sportsman and tennis player himself. He was under the instruction of David Churcher, then Davis Cup Captain of the country and Head Coach of the National Sports Council (NSC) Tennis Club.

Kobi was a junior national champion at U-12 and was runner-up in the  national tennis championships at U-14 in 1995.He was ranked 4th nationally at U-16 before enrolling in boarding school for his secondary school education at St Augustine’s College in Cape Coast. 

He was captain and number one seed of the university tennis team at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where he won the university championships and also won several medals in both singles and doubles at the national university championships organised by the Ghana Universities Sports Association(GUSA).
