June was a month filled with Comrades talk and we couldn’t be prouder of all our amazing athletes who represented us. The comradery between fellow runners was incredible to see and the support from all of our Wanderers families and friends was fantastic. Congratulations to all of our runners. We had some spectacular results this year.
- 8 Silver Medals (of which four of these were sub 7 hours)
- 15 Bill Rowan Medals (of which five were sub 8 hours)
- 26 Bronze Medals
- 5 Vic Clapham Medals
A very big thank you must go to our seconding team; we couldn’t have done it without you! Your smiles, support and seconding really got our athletes to the end. Thank you to Bertie Evans, Matthew M’crystal and Hilde Harvey.
Now that Comrades has come and gone, we will be hosting our annual Aches and Pains party. This is to celebrate all our runners who have run this year in any race that has left you any aches and pains! There should be a few! We will be combining this with the AGM this year to make it one big event and hopefully we will see YOU there!

Wanderers Aucor Property run
You have probably seen via Facebook and Instagram that we have been doing lots of advertising for the upcoming WANDERERS AUCOR PROPERTY RUN which is part of the Vitality Series.
We are so excited to once again host this amazing event. Date is set for the 26th August and entries are already flying. As it is part of the Vitality series, the dates for the other 3 runs are as follows:
- 12th August – Old Eds
- 26th August – Wanderers Aucor property Run
- 1st September – Adrienne Hersch (Randburg Harriers)
- 16th September – Rockies Gerald Fox Memorial
This series is always a lot of fun and it is great to support our fellow clubs by entering their runs. With our run, however, we do ask that all Wanderers Athletic Club members volunteer their time and help out with various jobs on the day. We have already sent out communication with regards to volunteering, but in case you missed it, members cannot run our own race. We will have a recce route tester the day before our run (Saturday the 25th where you will get an opportunity to run the route- more details to follow closer to the time). Please can I ask that you sign up asap so that we can start organising. We need all the help we can get! This run is a great way to showcase our club and we need your help to make that happen.
Please email us at [email protected] with your name and shirt size. Please also indicate when you are available. We need volunteers for Friday the 24th (10:00 until 5pm) and Saturday the 25th (08:00 until 5pm) and then Sunday the 26th (Marshalling at Various points during the race). Please indicate your available times and days.
Weekly Time Trials
Join us every Thursday evening @17:45 and challenge yourself by participating in either our 5km or 8km time trial starting from the bottom oval. The first Thursday of every month is our social night where you can join us for a bite to eat and a drink or two followed by a raffle where we have prizes sponsored by the Sweat Shop and Lorna Jane Activewear. *It is dark, so please wear bright clothes and bring your head torches!
Track sessions start at 17:45 every Tuesday on the top oval, all levels of runners are welcome. Sessions followed are on the website and on the WAC app.
Sunday Club Runs
WINTER TIMES! Consistency is key and if you are looking for a great way to run a steady 10 – 15 km these are the runs for you. The pace is easy and the company great, this is how Sunday runs are meant to be. These runs depart from the top parking lot @08:00.
Now that Comrades is over, you should consider getting stuck into some trail – great way to build the core that you wished you had at Cowies Hill and to build a monster base for the UP of 2019. Below are a few of the bigger events in the next few months. If you are looking for something local have a look at the Gauteng Winter Trail Series (https://www.trailseries.co.za)
Also for the diary – there will be a WAC trail run on Sunday 1st July – watch the groups for details.
