The Joburg Squash League successfully underway
With the Joburg Squash “Blitz” League now halfway through, The Wanderers teams have fared well so far. In particular, the 8th/9th League team has won all its matches to date.
In each of the matches we have fielded at least one of the Thusong Squash Development players. Bongani Machava played in the first two, Bandile Machava played in the third and Ashley Modiba and David Machava played in the fourth, each winning their respective matches.
COVID‑19 Lockdown Level-1 Playing Protocol
As a result of the relaxation of the Covid‑19 Lockdown restrictions to Level 1, the squash courts have been opened up to their normal operational hours. Members may make bookings on the GoBook system or turn up “on spec” to play.

▪️ Courts are fully open to paid‑up members.
▪️ Visitors are NOT allowed, except for bona fide League players for coaching, training and matches.
▪️ The showers will remain closed during Level 1
▪️ Covid-19 protocols must be adhered to.
▪️ Upon entry:
✔️ Complete the attendance register
✔️ Record your temperature taken at the gate.
😷 Wear a mask when not playing.
✔️ Maintain social distancing.
Please avoid making contact with fomites (surfaces on which the virus might reside) such as door handles, walls, taps etc. Use disposable gloves or a paper towel where necessary.
Resignation of Gary Plumstead as Court Manager
As of 1 October 2020, Gary Plumstead will no longer be performing the function of Court Manager. He will remain a member of the squash club and will remain on the committee with the portfolio for media notices.
As a full member of the squash club, Gary will continue to assist the committee in the running of tournaments and will continue to offer coaching services.
Any queries or problems relating to the operation of the courts, the booking system, league and other squash queries should be referred to Chris Hughes or Phil Louw. Queries regarding access to the courts with the membership card should be referred to Tony Faulkner at the Main Club.
The Wanderers Squash Club Championships will take place in October and the annual Chamber Challenge will take place at Chamber Exiles on World Squash Day, Saturday 10 October.
Annual General Meetings
The Wanderers Club 2020 Annual General Meeting will be held via Zoom on 5 October.
The Wanderers Squash Club AGM will be held on 26 October at the Main Club. This will also be covered by Zoom for those who cannot attend.
In order to combat the spread of the virus it is important to follow the official hygiene rules, one of which is to WASH YOUR HANDS with SOAP.
