SquashLeague Update

The Wanderers Club has a team in each of the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 9th Gauteng Leagues plus two teams in the 8th League. In the Master’s leagues, the Wanderers Club has one team in the 2nd League, two teams in the 3rd League and two teams in the 6th League.  As the League season comes to an end, the Wanderers teams have on the whole maintained respectable positions on the league tables.

Interprovincial Masters Tournament

The Masters IPT was this year held at East London.  The Gauteng 65+ age group was represented by a team of five players comprising two from Wanderers Club; Keith Willows (Captain) and Chris Hughes. The opposition comprised of four teams; Eastern Province A & B, Western Province and Zimbabwe.  The Gauteng team beat all four teams outright to win the tournament in this age category.

Upcoming events

With the end of the league season coming up there will be several tournaments happening before the start of the 2019 League season. Club Championships will commence on the 2nd of October, the Century Doubles will start on Friday 26 October and the Movember tournament will take place on the 24th November.

The annual Chamber Challenge, which normally takes place on World Squash Day (13th October) will this year be taking place at the Chamber Exiles Club on Saturday 20th of October.

Care of the Wanderers Squash courts

A lot of work is put into maintaining the condition of the courts and it is disappointing to see a lack of consideration for the club members by players who do not abide by the footwear rules.

NO BLACK SOLES are allowed on the court – only clear, non‑marking squash shoes.

Please can we avoid this from happening again:

Chris Hughes.

Chairman – Wanderers Squash Club.
