The Wanderers Tennis Club
Dear Wanderers tennis members,
As a Wanderers sporting sub-club we must do our share to contain the spread of Covid 19 in our country and to reduce the potential for exposure to our members.
As a result,
Formal social tennis on Saturday afternoon, Thursday evening and Sunday morning will be cancelled until further notice.
The Gauteng Tennis Association has postponed all leagues until at least the end of April, this means that the mixed doubles league will not be played as scheduled.
Club championships was being planned to start early in May and will now be postponed until after the revised league and tournament dates are available.
The tennis facilities will remain available to members; however we would encourage you to apply the following tennis specific precautions:
Avoid participating when large numbers of players are involved
Wash your hands thoroughly before going on court
Bring your own and full water bottle with you
Keep at least 1.5m away from opponents or partners
Touch racquets instead of normal pre- and post-match handshakes
Don’t touch your face after touching a ball, racquet or other tennis gear
Wash your hands thoroughly immediately after each match
Thank you for your understanding and support in these difficult times, and please keep safe.

Wanderers Introduces an Internal League
Most members have been asking for the club to create fun, social, and competitive events that will give players an opportunity to play more tennis in a structured manner. These events are also a great way to keep strong social networks, attract new members to our tennis community and to enhance the quality of tennis at the club. It is with these pillars in mind that from the 13th October 2019, the Wanderers Club will be introducing the ‘Wanderers Tennis Club League’.
This is a new and structured internal league that is also aimed at bridging the gap between leagues and club champs. It also strives to be a fair and transparent platform for assessing player strength by creating clear criteria for players who wish to be selected for league teams in 2020.
The league brings a series of benefits for members and the club which include, but are not limited to:
• Encouraging active participation
• Creating healthy competition
• Enhancing social networks
• Attracting new members
• Improving the quality of tennis
• Flexible match schedules
• Affordable participation/entry fee of R450.00. Alternatively players can purchase and use own balls for matches
The Wanderers Tennis Club League will commence Sunday, 12 October 2019 and end on Monday, 13 JANUARY 2020.
A draft list of players pre-allocated into groups has been posted on the club’s website/app –
Players who wish to be included in the list or excluded from it need to inform Jonathan Bell by Saturday 11 October 2019.
Prior to participation, players need to understand the level of expectation and what it means to play in one of the categories:
A – VERY COMPETITIVE, STRICT SELECTION CRITERIA, HIGH COMMITMENT and RESULTS DRIVEN
B – VERY COMPETITIVE, STRICT SELECTION CRITERIA, HIGH COMMITMENT and RESULTS DRIVEN
C – MODERATELY COMPETITIVE, FLEXIBLE SELECTION CRITERIA, MEDIUM COMMITMENT
D – SOCIAL & FLEXIBLE SELECTION CRITERIA
E – SOCIAL & FLEXIBLE SELECTION CRITERIA
