With all the local provincial and national tournaments done and dusted for the season, it was time for a bit of action away from home. On the weekend of 2-4 November, Central Gauteng took an 8-man team down to Durban to compete against Kwa-Zulu Natal in the annual Eastcoast Cup.
The Eastcoast Cup is an invitation event between the two provinces. Eight players from each team play two frames against each of the eight players on the opposing team. The result is 128 frames of exciting nail-biting snooker. During last year’s event, it went down to the wire with Central Gauteng coming back from an early deficit to win the final frame to claim a 65-63 victory. It does not get any closer than that.
During the first session of the tournament Central Gauteng went four frames done, but then the boys dug deep and during the next three sessions they managed to rally and turn the deficit into a 42-22 lead. With 4 sessions remaining there was still a lot of Snooker to be played. Kwa-Zulu Natal started strongly, making up some of the deficit, but then Central rallied again and finally claimed a 75-53 victory. Congratulations on retaining the title and for keeping the Central Gauteng and Wanderers flags flying high.
Well, all that remains now is the wish you all a very festive and safe Holiday season. We hope you have a wonderful time with your family, friends and loved ones, but please be careful out there if you are travelling on our roads and we look forward to seeing you all back early in next year.
Yours in Snooker
