SA Singles Snooker Championships

The 2021 SA Singles is the most prestigious event on the South African Billiards and Snooker Calendar, and this year was no different. Players had to qualify from a field of 60+, and the Top 32 battled it out for the most coveted prize in SA Snooker.

It was on form Mutalieb Allie from the Cape Winelands who made a mark, showing his intent when he played Rafique Limbada, Rafique going 2-0 up, Mutalieb then made it 2-2 with an 85 break and then compiled a 130 break in the next frame to make it 3-2, finishing the win off with a superb 57.

In the Semi Finals it was almost an all Cape Winelands affair if not for Gauteng Norths Kiashen Moodley who faced off with Michael Russouw, beating him 6-0, in the opposite half it was once again Mutalieb Allie against Tauriq Samsodien, however it was Tauriq who emerged the winner in a tense semi-final where Mutalieb could not find his previous rounds form, Tauriq winning 6-3 to book his spot in the final.

The final was held on the Saturday morning giving both players time to rest and ready themselves for the ultimate prize in SA Snooker. Tauriq Samsodien storming into a 4-0 lead and at the mid-session interval many thought that this would be over shortly. However the former 2 time SA Snooker Champion Kiashen Moodley had other ideas and slowly clawed his way back to make it 4-4, with a comeback that should have seen his opponent wilt, Tauriq made it 5-4 and then 6-4.

Undaunted Kiashen pulled back to make it 6-6 and in the final frame, showed his prowess as one of the most formidable potters in the game and in the country to make a superb 47 winning break and lift the 2021 SA Singles Snooker Championship Title. The SA Plate Championship was won by Adiel Umar of Central Gauteng beating Deon Floris of Eden 4-3
