With the SA Inter-Provincial championships behind us, all that remains is to complete our League season and finish the last couple of tournaments that remain. The Central Gauteng Snooker Association Singles took place between 30 September and 9 October 2019. Even though we are close to the end of the season, there was still a lot of interest in this event and most of the top players in the Province had entered.
The competition was fierce and we saw some exceptional performances and a few upsets along the way.
In the first of the Semifinals we saw Elvin Harris claiming a 4-2 victory over Mike Hines, while Shezad Memon claimed a nail biting 4-3 victory over Ryan George. In the Plate event it was Rafik Limbada and Patrick Moodley who progressed to the final. Both finals produced some good Snooker, but in the end it was Rafik Limbada who won the Plate event, while Alvin Harris continued the exceptional form he has shown all season, claiming victory in the final of the main event. Well done to all these players.
The CGSA Handicap Singles was the next event in line. With the handicaps leveling the playing fields, we saw some of the top players making an early exit. The final came down to a clash between Brandon Surajlal and Sean Zeagers. Brandon was too strong on the day and claimed the title.
The last remaining tournament in Central Gauteng was the CGSA 6 Reds event. After a number of close matches, it was Rafik Limbada and Adeel Umair who progressed to the final. In a final that saw some brilliant Snooker from both players, it was Rafik who was simply too strong and claimed yet another title for the season. Well done guys on yet another strong performance from all our players in Central Gauteng.
