The African Snooker and 6 Red Championships took place in Cairo, Egypt from the 4th to the 12th of May 2018. The tournament consists of various divisions and South Africa was represented by Peter Francisco, Munier Cassim, Faaris Khan, Kiashan Moodley and Mutalieb Allie. Congratulations to Mutalieb Allie for bringing home a Silver Medal from the All Africa Snooker Masters Championships. Thank you and well done to all our other participants from South Africa who also performed admirably. You are all dedicated ambassadors of the Sport and have made us proud.
On the 9th and 10th of June, Wanderers Club will be playing host to the Annual HRSCC Walker Cup, while Emperors Snooker Club in Sasolburg will host the Ibinson Cup event. Both these events consist of 6-man teams representing their provinces’ A- and B-Teams respectively. I look forward to bringing you results from these events, which have been mostly dominated by Central Gauteng over the last decade. I would like to also remind all our social players that the Snooker Room will not be available for social play over that weekend, but you are welcome to come and watch some exciting snooker being played by the top players in the province.
The National Snooker Championships are upon us again and this year Eastern Cape Cue Sports will be playing host to the South African Snooker Singles and 6 Red Championships for the first time since 2006. The events will take place from 17-27 June 2018 at the Hellenic Hall in Nelson Mandela Bay. The field will be packed with most of the top players from around the country and we look forward to seeing some exceptional Snooker being played during these events.
The Central Gauteng Snooker Association League fixtures are also running smoothly and the season is now approaching the halfway mark. The competition is very tough this year and there are still a number of teams that are in contention in the team standings at this stage. There are a few outstanding fixtures, but with the currently available results, The Control Freaks, consisting of Ridwaan Limbada and Yougash Pillay, have taken a small lead over The Boondock Saints. The Boondock Saints consist of Ryan George and Bilal Suleman. In the individual standings, it is also Yougash Pillay and Ryan George who have gone to the top of the rankings, but there is still a lot of Snooker to be played before the end of the season.
