On the weekend of 21 & 22 July Wanderers hosted the Faraad James Classic Knockout event. The fields saw a number of very strong entries and The Wanderers and Central Gauteng were well represented yet again. We saw some Snooker of a very high standard and some of the top players were eliminated along the way.
In the end, it was our very own Elvin Harris and Rafique Limbada who remained to contest the final, having defeated Mike Hines and Munier Cassim respectively in the Semifinals. It was a closely contested match, but it was Elvin Harris who was too strong on the day though and ended up winning the final frame to claim the title.
In the Plate event, Ridwaan Limbada, also from Wanderers Club, retained his Plate title, beating Gerhard Van der Walt 3-0 in the final. Well done to both of you on your victories.
Central Gauteng and the Wanderers Club will be hosting the SA Masters Championships from 8 – 11 August. This prestigious event is open to all players across the country who are 40 years or older. Most of the top players from around South Africa will be represented at the event and we trust the Executive of Central Gauteng Snooker will yet again make a huge success of this event.
While the Masters battle it out in Johannesburg, the SA Ladies Snooker Championships will be played in Cape Town. We wish all these players the best of luck and all the success they deserve.
Yours in Snooker
