ASTRO UPDATE
The Wanderers Astro unfortunately will not be completed by end-March 2022 as previously communicated due to several unforeseen issues. The Hockey Committee is, however, working closely with the main club to expedite the process. We expect the Astro to be completed just before Easter. In the interim, we will continue training at our alternative venues (see details below). We thank you for your patience and look forward to hosting you at Wanderers once again!
COVID-19 UPDATE
President Ramaphosa recently announced the easing of several restrictions, including gatherings and mask-wearing, as part of Adjusted Alert Level 1. Spectators will therefore be allowed at all hockey matches and practices. It will be great to have our supporters back!
SENIOR HOCKEY
Preseason trials and performance squad training commenced on 1 March 2022 for senior players. Teams will be finalized shortly prior to the commencement of the league on 24 April 2022. Wanderers are entering 7 men’s teams and 5 ladies’ teams this season.
All players and new joiners are encouraged to register on the SportsPlus App before 31 March 2022.

Once complete, download the SportsPlus App from the App Store for all communication, scheduling (games, practices, and events) etc.
The senior hockey teams will train at Roedean and St David’s over the next 2 week before returning to Wanderers after Easter. Training days and times will be communicated shortly.

JUNIOR HOCKEY
Junior registration has now closed for 2022. Practices began on 5 March 2002 at Reddam Waterfall on Saturdays and St David’s during the week. Training will continue at these venues until 12 April 2022 (see details below).

- DERBY DAYS
Southern Gauteng has decided to formalize the derby day format piloted last year. This means interclub derby days will take place approximately every 2nd week with each age group at their own venue, allowing for more streamlined matches. The scheduled derby days are: 30 April, 7 and 21 May, 4 and 18 June, 9, and 23 July 2022. Matches will no longer be played on grass!

- FRIDAY NIGHT LEAGUE (FNL)
Teams will be finalised in the beginning of April and will remain together throughout the season. The team will learn and grow together through training and matches taking place on Friday evening (Friday Night League) from 30 April – 29 July 2022. Each team will have their own dedicated coach who will provide tailored training based on the needs and talents of the team.
INDOOR HOCKEY
Congratulations to our Wanderers Gold high school team who finished 3rd in the Women’s 1 Senior League, with the same points as Old Eds (in 2nd place) and only 1 goal less. Fantastic achievement!
SAINTS SPORTSFEST 2022
Southern Trappers are hosting an U12/13 Easter festival 5s tournament at Saint Stithians on Monday, 18 April 2022 with space for 12 teams only.
Wanderers are entering two U12/13 GIRLS teams (18 field players and 2 goalkeepers).
The cost is R600 per player to pay for the team and our coaches. Please note that payment is due immediately upon confirmation of the team and is unfortunately non-refundable should your daughter no longer be able to play.
