Senior Hockey

Another action-packed month down at the Wanderers astro between Easter and the school holidays.  There were 2 weekends of league for our senior teams, see results below.  We are very happy and proud of how our teams have started the 2021 winter league, keep it up!  We appeal to all teams to please honor their fixtures as far as possible, even with school holidays and public holidays.  Good luck for the next round of games on 8/9th May, proudly Wanderers!

Wanderers Ladies 1st and 2nd Teams have had an excellent start to the season, keep up the hard work at training and all-round awesome squad vibes.

Indoor Africa Cup

Congratulations to the SA Men’s Indoor Team, and Wanderer’s member Chad Futcher, on qualifying for the 2022 Indoor Hockey World Cup in Belgium, beating Namibia 4-1.  Unfortunately, the ladies lost to Namibia in the final, 2-0. Good luck Chad and the team for the World Cup prep and build up.

Junior Hockey

Showcasing our Coaches

During the month of April, we have been showcasing our Junior Coaches.  A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to ensure we offer our juniors top class coaching that includes continuity and adheres to our overall coaching plan.  We cannot thank our coaches enough for their commitment, energy, and willingness to give back to the club, we are lucky to have you.  All the coaches’ profiles can be seen on our Facebook and Instagram accounts (@WanderersHockeyClubSA).  See below our Junior Head Coach Alridge Louw as well as Greg Jarvis.  Greg’s profile demonstrates the history of junior hockey and the importance for clubs to keep up the hard work in ensuring junior club hockey remains strong and continues to grow and develop our future hockey stars.

Club League Days

On Saturday 17th April, our Juniors took part in the season’s first inter-club league day.  Wanderers entered teams across all the age groups, U7 to U13, playing at various venues around Joburg.  We were proud to host the U7s and U11 boys at the club.  It was wonderful to receive such positive feedback from parents including the good organization and amount of fun the kids had on the day.  It is a relief to have our children back on the turf, enjoying club hockey.  Thank you to all involved and well done to our teams and coaches who produced great results on the day.

Friday Night League

Our U13s – U17s are getting ready for the South Gauteng Friday Night League due to start in May.  After much anticipation and practice, we are excited to see our Colts out on the astro having fun and demonstrating all they have learnt.  We know you will do great, good luck and enjoy.  Wanderers will be hosting weekly Friday Night League games and we look forward to welcoming the other clubs.

Yours in Hockey,

Gill Pringle
