Wanderers Masters Cricket League
Congratulations to Old Edwardians for winning the inaugural Wanderers Masters League. In a thrilling final in which almost 500 runs were scored in 50 overs, Old Edwardians beat Pirates by 19 runs. Man of the match went to Old Edwardians’ Warren Dugmore for his 99 in 58 balls.
All those involved deemed the inaugural Wanderers Masters league, for cricketers of over 40 year’s old, a success. There was some good quality cricket, with former Proteas and provincial players turning out.
The intention of the league was to bring retired players back to the game – playing matches on a regular basis against likeminded people. The league has succeeded in creating support and momentum for veterans’ cricket in the region, and it is envisaged that more teams will take part next year.
It was also agreed that the timing of the league was perfect – with the highveld winter providing ideal conditions to play cricket.
The 2020 edition will take place from May to July – any players or teams interested in participating should contact Frank Auger at [email protected]
Congratulations to Shannon Landman-Kriel for once again being nominated for the gsports awards A supporter of the Year. The winner is chosen by a public vote that closes on the 9th August. See above for details.
