Wanderers Masters Cricket League 2019
Wanderers Cricket Club will launch its inaugural Cricket League for players who are over 40 years old on the 11th May.
The first game will be between Old Edwardians and Vagabonds, 25 overs a side, commencing at 10.00 on the Bottom Oval
The intention is to bring experienced cricketers back to the game, develop veterans cricket and ultimately identify players that can be considered for future Over 50’s Cricket World Cups. The next edition is scheduled to be held in Cape Town in March 2020.
The Wanderers Club honours Dale Hermanson and Mike Sacher for their services.
At the recent Wanderers Cricket Club annual prize giving dinner, current chairman Frank Auger presented Dale Hermanson and Mike Sacher with their Honours Awards for long-standing commitment and service to the Wanderers Club.
Dale Hermanson joined the Wanderers Club whilst still a scholar at the King Edward VII School (KES) in 1993, where he played alongside future Proteas captain Graeme Smith. He made his Wanderers 1st XI debut in his matric year (1997).
Dale became Chairman of the Wanderers Cricket Club in 2008, stepping down after serving almost 10 years in the role.
From 2015 to 2017 Dale served on the Main Committee of the Wanderers Club as the sub clubs’ representative. In addition, he served on sub-committees of the Gauteng Cricket Board during his time as Chairman.
Mike Sacher joined the Wanderers Club in 2002. He captained the Wanderers Cricket Club’s senior Saturday team from 2002 to 2018 – only retiring from playing when he reached 60 years of age.
Mike has been a cricket committee member since 2010, serving as Vice-Chairman and Honorary Treasurer. Under his tenure the cricket club has reached a sound financial footing and he has been instrumental in the success of the club’s annual fundraising golf day.
In 2013 Mike was elected onto the Board of the Central Gauteng Lions as a Director. He currently serves as Treasurer and chairs the disciplinary committee.

2018/19 Team of the Season
The Jesse Tony Janneker Award for Wanderers Cricket Club Team of the Year went to the Premier League Team captained by Lee Gruskin.
The award is given to a team that embodies the spirit and values of the Wanderers Cricket Club.
This season’s Premier League has performed above expectations given the young age and relative inexperience of its players.
The team has also shown that the club can produce its own premier league players, with many of them having worked their way up from the lower teams.
