After a relatively poor 2016/2017 season during which many of the Wanderers cricket teams struggled in their leagues and no trophies were won, 2017/18 proved to be more successful. Five of the eight senior teams finished in the top 2 in their leagues, with two teams (Sunday 2 and Saturday 4) coming out on top.

As another season has come to an end, the Wanderers Cricket Club would like to extend its thanks;
To the cricket committee, Mike Sacher, Graham McMillan, Dale Hermanson (former Chairman), Thabo Kalabatane and Zaid Patel, for their tireless work behind the scenes – and to the team captains for their dedication and desire to make the Wanderers a winning club.
To the senior club coach Jeff Levin, whose passion for the game and the well-being of the Wanderers Cricket Club extends to all that play in its colours.
To the junior section managers and coaches, in particular, Craig Taylor and Jerome Speechly, for their work with the future of Wanderers Cricket.
2017 saw women’s cricket return to the Wanderers, with the team competing in the Gauteng Women’s Premier League, finishing a creditable 4th. The women’s team has brought a great deal of goodwill and support to the club, and we look forward to its continued growth. Many thanks to Shannon Landman-Kriel for her work in establishing the team – we are lucky to have someone with her passion for the game. Thanks also go to the club management for initiating the Women’s Day membership drive that provided many of the playing members.
Finally, the cricket section has managed to keep on a sound financial footing due to sponsorship and fundraising. Thanks go to New Africa Sports, Molefi Letsiki Diamond Holdings, Redwill ICT, the organisers of the Wanderers Bash and the sponsors of the 2017 Wanderers Cricket Club Golf Day.
See you all next season!
Mike Sacher hangs up his boots
Wanderers CC Vice-Chairman, Mike Sacher chose the last Saturday game of the season at Roodepoort CC and the eve of his 60th birthday to announce his retirement from playing.
Fittingly, Mike was “not out” at the end of the Wanderers innings!
Thanks for the memories Mike – we hope to still see you next season on the sidelines, cheering us on.
