We are now on the brink of the 2017/2018 season with Wednesday League, Saturday league and the JBA Trips all starting this weekend.

Margaret Stoneham has volunteered to supervise this weekend’s trips.

Wanderers have entered 6 men’s and one ladies teams into the Saturday leagues. The new mixed Super 8 will be predominately a ladies side captained for the first time by Janis Fluxman.

Although the clubs have voted for no hot snacks, only peanuts and chips, Wanderers will offer snacks after the game on the first weekend.  Thereafter a phone around will be done to ascertain what other clubs have done to decide on what to serve going forward.  The charge specified is R15 per player. Wanderers still to decide!  Janis Fluxman is as usual, on top of the catering requirements.

One of the men’s teams will be filled with Development players under the guidance of Allan Gordon.

This year, Allan is the Vice Chairman of JBA bowls, a doer more than a talker.  The teams are studded with 12 and 13-year-olds. Good Luck.

Two of the greens have already been opened and with the little bit of rain that has fallen, are already green.

The two Lefties days held on public holidays were a great success and one was featured in last month’s newsletter.
Brian Myers has been extremely busy with Administration getting ready for the new season and checking and rechecking the BSA bowlers’ site.

This year it is Paul Botha who is the treasurer and he is really looking forward to the challenge of ensuring that our section runs smoothly.  Sam Rosen is “back in the saddle” doing the TABs on Sunday mornings while his Thursday school is as popular as ever. Phil Brest is running the Men’s Internal Competition and we wish him all the luck in his new Portfolio.

The last Wednesday of Mike Bolel and his “Hatzollah Wednesday” climaxed with a full green on the 18th October with a BOEREWORS braai.  It now goes into recess till league is over at the end of November.

We hope that all our members enjoy the bowls on offer and make full use of our beautiful club.

Although there will always be the detractors, our facilities are magnificent and unrivalled.

We do hope that we have many winners of tournaments in our midst and that all those playing enjoy themselves.  Remember bowls is for enjoyment, pleasure and exercise!!
