Welcome to the November edition of the newsletter.
The C and D greens are coming along well. C will be opened next week. December will see work being done on A and B.
We have had a number of successful “corporate” or “party”days where people have hired the greens for their end of year functions. The great thing about this is that we accrue funds to the bowls section where we initiate the invitation and the catering obviously benefits Chariots which has a spin off for the Main Club. We are grateful to Gary Summerton, Myer Guinsberg and Trevor Rosenberg who have assisted with these days – a big thank you to you gentlemen. We are looking for volunteers to assist and you may talk to me to add your name to the list. You may find it surprisingly rewarding.
2 mens teams and on ladies team have been entered for the Saturday afternoon leagues which commence on the 22nd of January next year. To help the ladies out, it has been wonderful to welcome a group of ladies from Dunkeld who will join us as a mixed club side (special permission given by the JBA). To welcome the players we had a morning of bowls and lovely refreshments / cake with 8 players from Dunkeld. The ladies will be calling themselves the Wandergals. The Dunkeld players have been invited to play TABS with us, so please extend our usual warm Wanderers welcome to them.
Please notice that we had Pessel back and how nice it was to see that see has lost none of her bowling prowess. Welcome back!
As part of the lead up to the beginning of league a programme of 20/20s and practice games will be announced. Please take note that Saturday 15 January is a practice for all (men and ladies sides). Those not playing will have a TABS session. Afterwards we will have a Prego Braai.
Mid-week league continues. A number of teams entered the JBA Trips. Congratulations to Roy Lambert, Richard Bucher, Jack Coulter and Philip Brest for winning their sections – good luck to you in the knockout stages.
Tower Novices will be hosted by us again in January and we need volunteer officials please.
Finally it looks as if COVID is on the rise again and so we hope you continue to be safe and well. Please remember to sanitize and follow the protocols.
May you all have a wonderful festive season and enjoy the holidays whether you are going away or staying home. I look forward to sending and receiving greetings on our Social WhatsApp group in December.
