Covid-19 second wave has retreated and bowls has resumed with the protocols appropriately amended. Leagues are back and JBA and National tournaments are being planned and played.
We have entered 3 Men’s sides and a mixed side (which will consist predominantly of ladies as a full ladies side is not feasible. Good luck to all and remember please that you are doing this for the Wanderers Bowling Club – please don’t give the selectors a hard time – play where you are selected and do your best. After all we are sportsmen and women playing for the team, not our individual prestige. The Wanderers does not tolerate unsportsmanlike behaviour. As the Boy Scouts and Cubs say – We will do our best!
The new shirts are similar to the Wanderers cricket design, with a bowls logo. These are exactly the same as worn by the international cricketers in the IPL. The material is called Poly-spandex high performance and manufactured exclusively by SEVEN BY MS DHONI. They are partially sponsored by the sponsors who help the cricket club MRF. I hope you enjoy their luxurious feel – and are a proud wearer of the Wanderers logo.
It’s great to see that there is a new enthusiasm by the committee to make things better. We have a number of strategies this year but the 2 of most import are upping the membership numbers (new as well as experienced players) and improving our facilities of which we are justly proud.
The outside benches are being refurbished and cushions being made – not only for comfort but for beautifying our facilities. We are planning many events and I’m sure that they will make our club stand out as the best in Jhb let alone the country. Thanks Janis.
The greens are playing well and our thanks – especially over this trying Covid time and the weeks of torrential rain (nearly forgotten now as the sun comes back) – go to Tony, Edwin and Victor. Any issues/suggestions may be noted and sent on WhatsApp or e-mail to the committee.
Very pleasing is that we now are hosting for 5 weeks the seniors on Thursdays – being central and with 4 greens is a wonderful privilege.
Thanks to Richard Haupt and Rob Shimmin of Bryanston Country club for a great pairs competition on the 21st. A BCC pair won first prize and Ronnie Herman and Baboo Laher came second. An event enjoyed by all. Pictures are up on the notice board.
The Marriot / Protea hotel has had a number of specials for members and 2 couples took advantage of the Valentine’s Day Luncheon. Apparently, this was an excellently prepared and delicious event. Anyone know these “love birds”?
Best regards in Bowling
