Welcome to the next edition of the newsletter

On the Public Holiday of Freedom Day we held a TABS on Steroids day.  We played drawn pairs and had a lot of fun. Tea and cakes were served after 10 ends and then we played another 6 to finish at about 11:15.  We then retired upstairs to Chariots for refreshments and prize-giving.  The winners (highest points) won bowls of chocolates.  See the pairs pic below. There were also 2 lucky draws for bottles of wine and a 50/50 which paid out a handsome R600.  It’s so nice to see so many people coming to play and we all had a great morning.  The weather could not have been more spectacular.  We will do another day soon.

The club has hired a Sports Manager (Debbie Friend) whom we welcome and whom I’m sure we will be interacting with from a sporting perspective soon.  One of her duties is also to co-ordinate marketing.  I am appealing to any of our bowls members that wish to do advertising on or near our greens to discuss with me these opportunities.  Just think of the exposure sitting upstairs where we look onto the greens and seeing your or your children / friends companies and products being advertised – money from this will surely help us grow our bowls section and further advance our facilities.

League results are rather poor at the moment and the second round will start again in 4 weeks time.  Mens A, B, C are lying 4th, 4th and 5th respectively.  The trips side is having fun.  I must reiterate that the league is to be played with determination, grace and sportsmanship.  Opportunities come and go when we get promoted or dropped to or from a side.  Sometimes this is to strengthen a side, sometimes to make compatibility work better and sometimes we’re just playing very well or very poorly.  Your duty as a club member is to support the selectors and play.  I have no time for whingeing and a poor attitude as this makes everyone uncomfortable and stressed.  Please don’t put your name down for league if you cannot commit for the whole season.

Two sides went through into the knockout stages of the Stan Dench Trophy and well done to them. In the JBA4s we also have two sides that have progressed and good luck to them next weekend.  A side is going down to Cape Town for the Nationals and we wish them Good Bowling and a happy time as well.

Anyone who needs additional shirts or a new red shirt – please contact me.  I’d like to see no more white shirts on our greens any longer please.  The large sizes have been ordered and will be on sale from May.

Thanks for an eventful month.  Enjoy the pics of the TABS on Freedom Day

Good Bowling
