Once again a year has passed, Wanderers Bowls is still alive and well and success has been coming our way.

We have 189 playing members. We are financially strong and viable with R 204 000 in our bank account. Not bad for a bowls club.

Rochelle Grusin is the 2016 winner of the JBA Ladies Novices Champion of Champions. An excellent achievement having only been bowling for 12 months!

The 2017 JBA Open Trips Champions are Duanne Abrahams, Phil Brest and 17 year old Greg Burns, great things are expected of Greg while Duanne is a Springbok bowler! Phil Brest will also achieve much more in his bowls career.

Greg and Duanne are now the JBA Champions of both Trips and Pairs as you will read below. Greg has now won 3 titles this year and Wanderers will soon require a new honors board !

Mike Bolel, Warwick Sagar , Greg Burns and Jason Smith have won the 2017 JBA Wednesday league. This is a great achievement and well done to all.

Stan Friedman and Stan Sandler  reached the Final  of the JBA Senior Pairs and were the runners up! What an achievement by the two Stan’s!!! Once again, Wanderers is extremely proud to inform that Duanne Abrahams and Greg Burns are the WINNERS in the 2017 JBA Open Pair’s.

The vast turnout of their Wanderers club mates in their red shirts supporting our two finalists was just unbelievable.

Thank you to the four players and all spectators for creating a real atmosphere of club spirit. Bobby Donnelly reached the last 8 in the BSA National’s singles. Bobby Donnelly and Wayne Perry played in the South African Masters.

There were 7 x Wanderers members in the JBA men’s under 19 managed by Allan Gordon. Josh Wookey and his Fours team were medalists in the under 20 BSA Juniors in Bloemfontein. Allan has also just been elected to Vice President of the JBA and his tireless work done for Development bowl’s is unbelievable and most appreciated. A deserved position.

The ladies league side ended fourth in Division 2 and we are hoping for an influx of lady bowlers soon.

We have senior bowlers Margaret Stoneham, and ever smiling Pesel Gelman, keeping the flag flying high with many new faces coming through.

Greg Burns, together with Ron Burns, was responsible for running the 2017 Tower Novices. They received 191 entries. Jasper Hulley was once again there to ensure that the finances ran smoothly.
This tournament has a great history and contributes handsomely to our bottom line!!! Warwick Wealth, as a sponsor, has really ensured it’s continued viability.

We had an extremely pleasant afternoon match against Stuart Weaving and his strong team from Jersey. It was enjoyed by all. There were tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat when they sang Auld Lang Syne and other songs. They loved our club and members. Stuart has already asked if they could play us next year! Well done Wanderers.

The Mixed Pennant league team, championed by Anne van Dijk, finished mid table.
Men’s A were 4 th, B came 11 th in Division 1.
Our star team was the E side made up of father’s and son’s, they won promotion !
C and D both came 3 rd in their respective Division’s.
All in, a great season with all men’s sides showing true club spirit.

Tony Faulkner together with Fana, Edwin and Amos , ensured that the green’s and surrounds were always in mint condition.

We hosted both the JBA Masters and BSA Masters events. Peter Yorke Smith was once again available to ensure all was in order while the performance of Adrian Burke was excellent as always.
Our Treasurer was Myer Guinsberg and he was a total success ensuring that all went smoothly with professional efficiency.

Brian Myers was once again our admin secretary, what an asset, everything seems to just happen !
Adrian Burke, arranging Masters events , umpires, flags, his beard is most becoming , great having him at Wanderers.

Janice Fluxman ensured that Wednesday and Saturday league was always well catered for and she is a real champion.

Rose Wookey motivated everyone and ensured that Wanderers was never short of spirit of the correct kind.

Ron Burn, father of Greg, is full of plans for the future and the bowls section is in good hands. We have so many members pulling their weight, Audrey Bernstein, Charl Gussenhoven, Eddy Magid, Stan Friedman, Terry Fry coaching, Rally Kartun, Sam Rosen ,Ronnie Grek, Mike Bolel ,Warwick Sagar ,Bobby Donnelly, Jasper Hulley, Peter Yorke Smith, the list is endless.

Just the above paragraph with members names is enough to prove that!

What is most motivating are all the new members that are joining Wanderers. There are already 12 new members and that should be just the start.

Bowls at Wanderers is alive and well!!!
