A SPORT FOR YOUNG AND OLD(ER) PLAYERS

Congratulations to the junior players who practise and train at The Wanderers. They did us proud at the Southern Gauteng Badminton Association’s tournament for the under 15s. Kerisha and Nic were runners up in the mixed doubles event. Nic and Daniel were runners up in the men’s doubles with Kerisha runner up in the singles. Aarush also did very well.

Enquiries regarding coaching for junior players may be directed to Les Brazier on 083 626 3576.

Senior players who practise at The Wanderers Club participated in an inter-Provincial tournament in Kimberley from 08 to 15 November for the over 65s and over 70s. This was the first time the Grand Masters have held a two-in-one tournament: – a total of 80 players ranging in ages from 65 to 77 took part.

Success is noted. Johan Croucamp reached the finals of both age categories and won the singles and mixed doubles events in each. This gave him 156 SA tournament titles which is no mean feat. Appreciation is expressed to Johan for his role in assisting and training members of this group at our club in the run-up to the tournament.

Eileen Howson was Johan’s mixed doubles partner in each of these events. She came 4th in the singles event which led to her achieving the Number One position overall.

POLITE REMINDER: – we are back to normal playing hours, currently for members only but once things improve, we will be open to visitors.
