We are delighted to report a month of success in tournaments. Congratulations to our players who were part of the Southern Gauteng Badminton Association (SGBA) team who won the SA Masters Open and Inter-Provincial tournament. The last time our provincial team won the event was back in 1995 so this is noteworthy indeed.

Wanderers members Gail Mcloughlin, Angela Hardy, Erskine du Toit, Johan Croukamp and Adam Fan took part in this national championship tournament held in Robertson from 14 to 20 May 2022.

Further success followed in the SA Golden Eagles Open and Provincial badminton championship tournament also held in Robertson. Adam Fan and Johan Croukamp were part of the team representing the SGBA. The team finished fourth.

In the Open event, the men’s doubles pairing of Johan Croukamp and Adam Fan won the national championship. Johan Croukamp also won the men’s singles and mixed doubles titles.

Our younger players are also in the limelight. 5 Wanderers Junior players took part in an Under 13s Open tournament in Benoni.  Chloe Lai won the singles and the ladies’ doubles with her partner. Zeming Chen won the singles and his partner, James Gabriels won the men’s doubles event. Worthy of a special mention is 7-year-old William Wan who came 3rd in the singles and also played in the doubles event partnered by Arthur. Well done all of you with a mention of appreciation for coaches Les Brazier and David Calvert!
