The Badminton section Committee has taken the decision to close for a month as a precautionary measure in the light of COVID-19 (coronavirus). The matter will then be re-considered and members advised accordingly.
This is in line with Badminton SA who advised on 16 March that “all sports be postponed or cancelled for the next (14) fourteen days at a provincial, district and club level:
– Including clubs, district, provincial and national activity and includes junior and senior sports activities.
– Amateur and professional sports gatherings.
– Formal and informal sport gatherings
– Private and institutional sports gatherings.
– Practice and competition.”
Looking forward, we ask everyone to uphold court etiquette whilst keeping minimal or no direct contact with others. For the sake of your own health and to protect others, please ensure you follow all advisory notifications, take whatever precautions you are able and exercise basic hygiene at all times.
One impact will be the inevitable shortage of shuttles. An appeal is made to everyone to be frugal, not to discard shuttles until absolutely necessary and to do whatever it takes to limit the number used. It is anticipated that future imported shuttles will be more expensive. But the most important factor will be availability. Let’s all do our part.
Not the brightest of news but the entire world is experiencing an unprecedented situation.
